Like Mother’s Day, Father’s Day today has been introduced and popularized in many countries including Vietnam. By convention, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June every year. Father’s Day is an occasion to honor fathers, a day for children to express their love and gratitude to their fathers, and to bond families.
Due to the nature of the job, crew members are probably the most disadvantaged and lonely fathers. In happy days like these, many fathers are out there with their children to receive wishes, gifts and share their happiness with them. But for seafarers, long business trips, far from the mainland, rare occasions of receiving phone signals, and because of life’s responsibilities have forced them to accept these disadvantages. Not only dad, the children have also gotten used to their father’s absence on holidays, Tet, and birthdays. Many children cried out at the birth when their father was away, the few times they met through the phone screen when the train had phone signal.
As the breadwinner of the family, a father must always be strong to be a solid support for his wife and children. Away from family, away from loved ones is a difficult choice for each seafarer to commit to taking care of their family’s life on shore. Because, the children need to go to school, need to be fully cared for, because they are the future And even though the work is very difficult and hard, Dad is still willing to work in happiness and responsibility. Fathers who work on ships, only secretly hope that their children are always obedient, healthy, resilient and strong like their father’s seafaring job.
There are many days for mothers, but only one day to honor fathers. Wishing all fathers a happy, joyful, peaceful and healthy holiday.
